One of the manuals shows the knob missing, but the parts list shows FOUR knobs were included. In 1963 the Knight Star Roamer kit appeared. The Star Roamer was a Superheterodyne radio and had many advantages over the Space Spanner and Span Master. It also had three times as many parts and a price tag to match. In 1963 the Space Spanner cost Sep 2, 2012. #2. I built this radio in 1963 or 64 when I was in high school. The Knight Kit Star Roamer was a 4 tube radio with a solid state rectifier if I remember correctly. It was an "OK" radio for $40 but had fairly low grade performance (no front end to speak of) like most radios in that price range. Still, it opened the short-wave radio 1. With the unit unplugged, turn the power switch on. Use your ohmmeter to check for any leakage between either of the power plug prongs and chassis. If you still feel there may be voltage on the chassis, you could take a small 120 VAC incandescent lamp and connect it between chassis and that 'earth ground'. Both were from the same vintage and I believe they both sold for around 39 dollars. I had the GR-64 but always thought the Star Roamer looked cooler! Knight had some good styling folks. I now have both the GR-64 and the Star Roamer.
